Description

A flapjack is a sweet oat bar that is popular in the UK. It is a great anytime snack and makes a perfect lunchbox treat. Also great for bake sales or the desert table at your next cookout.

Ingredients

2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter 1 cup light brown sugar cup Golden Syrup* 4 cups Quick Cooking Oats (Not instant) pinch of salt *can use Corn Syrup or Maple Syrup

Instructions

Preheated 375-degree oven. In a large non-stick sauce pan add butter, light brown sugar and Golden Syrup (Or substitute). Heat on medium low until butter is melted and sugar has completely dissolved remove from heat and add salt. Stir in oats and mix until all the oats are well coated. Spoon the mixture into an 8x8 square pan lined with parchment paper. Level mixture, press and smooth. Bake on the middle shelf for 15-20 minutes or until top is golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes then remove from pan. When cooled cut into 9 medium or 16 large pieces.

Additional Instructions

Golden Syrup can often be found in the International section of large chain supermarkets or can be ordered on-line. Corn Syrup or Maple Syrup can be used as a substitute.
